چکیده

A new monaural method for the suppression of late room reverberation from speech signals, based on spectral subtraction, is presented. The problem of reverberation suppression differs from classical speech de-noising in that the “reverberation noise” is non stationary. In this paper, the use of a novel estimator of the non-stationary reverberationnoise power spectrum, based on a statistical model of late reverberation, is presented. The algorithm is tested on real reverberated signals. The performances for different RIRs with ranging from 0.34 s to 1.7 s consistently show significant noise reduction with little signal distortion. Moreover, when used as a front end to an automatic speech recognition system, the algorithm brings about dramatic improvements in terms of automatic speech recognition scores in various reverberant environments.

Single-Microphone Speech Dereverberation: Modulation Domain Processing and Quality Assessment

In a reverberant enclosure, acoustic speech signals are degraded by reflections from walls, ceilings, and objects. Restoring speech quality and intelligibility from reverberated speech has received increasing interest over the past few years. Although multiple channel dereverberation methods provide some improvements in speech quality/intelligibility, single-channel dereverberation remains an o...

Single–Channel Speech Dereverberation based on Spectral Subtraction

Speech signals recorded with a distant microphone usually contain reverberation, which degrades the fidelity and intelligibility of speech in devices such as ’hands–free’ conference telephones, automatic speech recognition and hearing aids. One important effect of reverberation on speech is overlap–masking, i.e. the energy of the previous phonemes is smeared over time, and overlaps following ph...

Distant-talking speaker identification by generalized spectral subtraction-based dereverberation and its efficient computation

Previously, a dereverberation method based on generalized spectral subtraction (GSS) using multi-channel least mean-squares (MCLMS) has been proposed. The results of speech recognition experiments showed that this method achieved a significant improvement over conventional methods. In this paper, we apply this method to distant-talking (far-field) speaker recognition. However, for far-field spe...
